(10:27 am - 07.30.2003 - lollapalooza 7.19 - i feel )

ok, so i guess i'll break down and write about lollapalooza... we got out there a little late, walked in when the donnas were finishing up. went up to find our seats... i had row j, thinking i'd be 10 rows back, somehow i ended up being in the second row a little off to the right of the stage. rock. damn good seats. we watched the j5 and one of them waved to me. in between set changes was entertaining with the djs. queens of the stone age came on and we decided to stand up and get a little closer, and out of the sun. good god. nick oliveri came out in these tight white pants. it was a sight to say the least. i guess it could have been worse, he could have been naked, as he is in these pictures. yikes. they played a lot of my favorite songs off of songs for the deaf. some drunk guy behind me was screaming "where's dave?!?!" but, fuck, nicky lucero. amazing. i couldn't stop watching him. i found myself not singing along, and just watching him saying "wow." a lot. i'm amazed with drummers i guess.

so after qotsa next was incubus. i couldn't wait to hear megalomaniac live. the set list, in order, consisted of:

warning
nice to know you
megalomaniac
make yourself
the warmth
stellar
circles
vitamin
hello (lionel richie cover)
pistola
privilege
nowhere fast
x-french t-shirt (shudder to think cover)
wish you were here

ok, so brandon boyd is hot. it's a known fact... but inbetween stellar and circles, brandon took his shirt off, and good god, the women got 100% louder. they're only into the music cause of him. so disappointing. this set was to make the new fans happy. i would have killed to hear older songs. only vitamin? oh well. next time... ben was singing back up on a lot of songs. jeanette was so happy to be seeing incubus. she said it was the best thing ever. everyone was looking at me weird cause i was singing along to the new songs, but, what can i say? i'm a fan.

next up was audioslave. we met up with amira and her friend lisa, so they could get a good seat for the first half of the set. jeanette and i went out on the lawn. while out there, i thought brad wilk was backwards, but the whole background of their set was mirrors. so i thought my mind was playing tricks on me.. but when jeanette and i got back up to our seats in the middle of their set, i realized that he really was backwards. so the whole drum set was turned the other way, it was really interesting. their set list:

gasoline
set it off
light my way
like a stone
super stud
what you are
shadow on the sun
peace love and understanding (elvis costello cover)
getaway car
7 nation army (white stripes cover)
show me how to live
cochise

the covers were pretty cool. i had a link to a video where you could see audioslave perform 7 nation army, but i can't find it now. figures. amira and lisa ended up meeting tom and getting a picture with him. i was/am ultra jealous, but incredibly happy for amira.

then the lolla girls came on stage and did a little dancing and crap before jane's. jane's blew me away. they sounded amazing, they looked great. dave navarros pants were incredible. bright blue and laced up in the back. perry is such an entertainer, i am damn glad he brought back lollapalooza. they played a short tight set. it was quite worth it. i can't wait to see next years line up. the only thing i was sad about is that the east coast didn't get a perfect circle, instead we got qotsa. maybe next time. so, all in all it was worth it. i just wish jeanette and i would have walked around a little more.

got lucky getting out of there too. not too much traffic, i think i actually got jeanette home by 11:30, considering her girlfriend, amee, was waiting for her. we were supposed to go to ozzfest today, but she has strep throat. hopefully i don't have it, cause we always share drinks and crap like that. for some reason, i knew we wouldn't be going. oh well, i was pretty broke anyhow... so i guess that's it for now.
