(1:05 pm - 05.19.2002 - x-fest happenings - i feel )

rain. normally it's my favorite weather. but not when i have to be outside in it for 10+ hours. not fun. let the story begin.

nik and nikki came around 1:30pm, much later than the proposed 11 or 11:30am as agreed on earlier. but hey, it's all good. did a few things (ate, stopped at nikki's, etc) and were on our way. not bad. we only had to turn around twice because of a few wrong turns. no worries. then the rain started. on and off at first. when we arrived, it wasn't raining. the day looked quite promising. sure, it'd be cold, but at least it wouldn't be pouring, right? heh.

we were allowed under the pavilion until 3pm. so we went down to watch custom. good show. people i know found me and said our hellos and all. after the custom set, we had to leave the pavilion, and right as we weren't under any shelter anymore, that's when the rain started. and never stopped. total chinese water torture. we braved it for awhile, to watch tenacious d, and reveille. we tried to find some suitable shelter, but it was still damn cold. we decided to get something to eat, and go out to the car to get warm and come back later to catch rob zombie. ok, good plan. not. *due to my own stupidity, i failed to notice the "no re-entry" signs. duh.

out in the car we ate, and got bored. around 7 nik and i decided to get back in to see rob zombie. nikki wasn't feeling well, so she decided to stay in the car. probably the best thing for her. nik and i were on our way back in. instead of ripping the tickets, like they used to, they now scan them. here's where the big problem arose. since our tickets were already scanned, they wouldn't let us back in. no, this wasn't happening. first of all, i had a headache, and i didn't even get to see the bands that i paid $35 to see. i was on the verge of freaking out.

then the devious side of me peeked out. i came up with a story. i thought "i'm a diabetic, i needed my medicine, it was an emergency, now you must let me back in." we walked all the way around the venue to the other entrance. i told my story to the ticket scanner lady. she said there was nothing she could do. fuckkkkkkkkk! she proposed that we go over to the box office and tell someone there my problem. i just started to walk away, crying. it was still raining, making my mood even worse. i turned to nik, and i just said "we're going to the box office."

i regained my composure and walked up to the nicest looking lady in the box office. i told her my story. she said, "sorry, i can't do anything." i argued my point. there were no written rules for medication check-ins, etc. if there was, i would have gladly followed the rules. it was an emergency. the lady stood her ground, as i continued debating. finally someone called her over, and she came back moments later and shoved 2 new tickets through the window! score! i was so happy i think i scared nik!

we got back in to catch the middle of rob zombie's set. not bad. he invited like 4 people up on stage to sing with him. interesting. i knew he's bust out an old white zombie song too, which he did. close to the end, nik turned to me and said "i feel bad." i asked why. "cause i left her in the car." oh, so you want to go back out, ok, do whatever you want nik. so nik decided to leave me by myself to enjoy the rest of the bands alone. he gave me his cell phone incase of a problem.

i had already missed the beginning of the unwritten law set. i went up on the hill to watch them. i was wet, upset, cold, and alone. a total loser standing alone. ugh. i couldn't even enjoy the show. i decided to walk up the hill and watch a little hoobastank. **(why do these festivals insist on scheduling 2 bands that i want to see at the same time?? both unwritten law and hoobastank were on at 9:10-9:50. fuckers.)** but whatever. i caught a little of both.

i didn't know exactly where i wanted to be to watch static-x. the band i was waiting all day to see. at first i thought at the top of the hill would be my best bet, but then i decided that i wanted to get as close as i could. while puddle of mudd was playing, i tried to call justin and brag to him that i was the one who was going to get to see static-x, not him. ha! but anyways, he didn't answer. of course. so, i ended up right in the front of the stage for static-x. i prepared for an intense moshpit.

the security guard chatted me up for a bit. but then, i saw static-x getting ready to go on. finally! i was so excited! with more than 3/4 of the entire crowd gone (they had left cause they couldn't deal with the rain) the pit wasn't awful at all. infact it was the most pleasant pit i've ever been in. hardly no shoving, pushing, and no crowd surfers went over my head. freaking awesome. i was no more than 10 feet away from the band. needless to say, i was excited. they played all the songs i wanted to hear. it was really something to brighten up the dreary day. the guitarist, tripp eisen (formerly of dope), at the end of the show, bent down and handed me the guitar pick he'd been using! that made the nite totally worth it.

i floated away from the stage, making my way to the car. i finally found it, and nik and nikki were sleeping in the backseat. i then noticed just how freaking freezing i was. driving home, we were fine, until nik hit a huge dinosaur size pot hole. we drove a little farther, and then nikki told nik to pull over. of course, to top off the almost perfect day, we had a flat tire. nikki didn't think she had a spare, but she did. we had to wait for nik's dad to drive out to meet us to get things set straight.

he finally came, and changed the tire, and then we were finally on our way home again. we went to nikki's house first, and then nik and his dad drove me home. it was around 2am. i can't believe just how soaked i was. infact, the clothes i was wearing are still wet. i have to go wash them now before they get moldy. but, at least i got to see static-x in the most polite mosh pit. i don't think nikki will want to go to a concert with me ever again. stupid rain. hey, at least i didn't get sunburn. that's a plus. instead, i probably have pneumonia! joy!
